First off, please email or call the Worshipful Master or Secretary and let them who you are and that you’re interested in joining and you’d like to visit the lodge sometime if possible. This should go without saying, but be polite and be patient if you send an email or leave a voicemail and don’t receive a quick reply.
Next come visit our lodge – why?
There are two reasons for this and they are very straightforward:
- This lets you get to know each lodge.
- This also lets each lodge get to know you.
- You see, each lodge is unique with its own culture, history, goals, membership, and norms.
By visiting our lodge, it will allow to learn about us and see if we are most compatible with you. It’s just as important that you’re a good fit for that lodge as it is for you to like the lodge.
For this reason, I’d go as far as to recommend that you visit our lodge for several months before ultimately deciding on that you want to petition. But sometimes, brothers in our lodge may give you a petition and try to get the ball rolling during your first meeting, there’s no harm in letting them know that you’re visiting and will make a decision soon.
